Dear Friends,
We are extremely sorry to inform you about the sad demise of Prof. S. A. Hussain on 31-12-2009 at Karkala. In this regard, we have conducted a condolence meeting on 12-01-2010, at Sundar Puranik Memorial Government High School (opposite court), Karkala, to mourn the departed soul.
It is needless to say that Prof. S. A. Hussain was the protégé of legendary Ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali. Being himself a well known Ornithologist and field biologist, Prof. Hussain has motivated young minds, especially the school and college students to take up some minor projects, and also promoted conservation of biological diversity, especially in wetlands.
At the condolence meeting, the gathered relatives, admirers and friends suggested to create a “S. A. HUSSAIN MEMORIAL FUND” with a minimum corpus fund of Rupees one lakh. In this regard, a resolution was also made.
It is proposed to publish a book on S. A. Hussain, mainly incorporating the write-ups from relatives and friends. Also, it is resolved to undertake the following activities in his memory each year, during the Wildlife Week Celebrations (October 1-7):
- S.A. Hussain Memorial competitions in Nature Painting, Nature Quiz, Elocution competitions etc.
- S.A. Hussain Memorial Lecture
It is resolved to award prizes to winners on the same day, after the SAH Memorial Lecture.
Therefore, we request you to send a ‘one page write-up’ (not exceeding 250 words) highlighting your association with Prof. S. A. Hussain, as a reminiscence of this great biologist, and also contribute liberally to the ‘S. A. Hussain Memorial Fund’.
